SO what are your thoughts/experience with this weapon type? I got recently one with unique perks from the vendor (Experiment 18-A) and yet to test it out. Actually plasma was the one I wanted to mod with reflex and long barrel (if only), but ended up having it with sniper barrel, marksman stock and reflex sights. Bad things: no long barrel, no barrel attachment, so basically you're stuck with 4 upgrade slots (5 on AER9 for example). Good things: all stock options are present, it does solid damage, has tight spread pattern, not much kick firing full auto. Other than that plasma feels rather strong in FO4, and has some good (and not) mods. Plasma - First of all I find this lack of long barrel disturbing. AER9 just does better, well, about everything. Basically right now no matter how much I want I can't come up with any pros of using Institute rifle over AER9 performance-wise. I've got the feeling that it's best modded towards full auto, but after comparing full auto performance of both it appeared to me that AER9 has much tighter spread pattern and is easier to control (probably thanks to better Marksman/Recoil stocks options while Institute only has long/short lover tier stocks). Institute laser - higher RoF, lower damage per shot then AER9. Also so far my favourite one is Prototype UP77 "Limitless Potential".
I modded it as semi-auto (long barrel) with Reflex sights and beam focuser. Was and still is my bread and butter (I'm 40+ level by now with maxed crafting). Mine: Laser rifle (AER9) - fast RoF (even with sniper barrel), somewhat decent accuracy, rather common ammo type. So what are your thoughts, bias? (in context of FO4 ofc)
